The voices of Diane Sawyer and Charles Gibson as well as the images in this video will forever be burned into my memory. I remember that morning clearly. I was watching Good Morning America, while waiting on Amy, so we could leave for another day in our first semester of graduate school at Vanderbilt. Needless to say, we did not leave the apartment for hours. There was so much uncertainty that day about who hit us; would there be more attacks after NYC, the Pentagon, and PA; and even the location of President Bush (who was reading with school children when it happened and was subsequently taken to a location unknown to the public at the time). It is difficult to explain the significance of this day to a new generation who does not remember it as it happened, but we must never forget. This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world. - President George W.
