The whales were again out in full force this Memorial Day Weekend. Lots of fin whales, minke whales and well over a dozen humpbacks. Our first pair of humpbacks- Nile and her new calf!!! Wed heard she was back with a new calf but this was our first sighting of them. She is one of our all time favorite whales. Just look at the size difference of the two as they both go down on a deep dive! Her calf presented us with an awesome fluke shot. Its so important to get a shot of their fluke in their calf year-it allows us to keep track of future sightings of the whale throughout its life. Next we were on to Rocker-very surface active! He breached and did a whole series of lob tails. Our last group (Geometry, Yoo Hoo, and Measles) were bubble feeding together. Birds hovering over the surface of the water often clue you in to just where the whales would surface engulfing a mouthful of fish. Happy Memorial Day!
