The winds return today as low pressure tracks through the Upper - TopicsExpress

The winds return today as low pressure tracks through the Upper Midwest. It is pretty wound up and winds are already gusting for the early morning. Temperatures are mild to start the day, but highs will generally between 9 and Noon with falling temperatures expected this afternoon. Winds will be west at 15-25 mph gusting higher until that second, temperature-dropping front arrives, and will then switch to the northwest and become even stronger. Winds from 20-30 mph will gust to 45 mph in the KWWL viewing area. If you are planning to head west, the winds may be even stronger. To add to the “fun”, light snow will fall, and while it will stay around an inch or less, it will blow around easily and reduce visibilities. The snow that fell in the northern portions of the viewing area will be picked up, as well. This will all help to create hazardous travel conditions, mainly in the northern portion of the state, but all will have difficulties with the winds. Temperatures will drop to around zero by tomorrow morning and winds will stay strong, so wind chills will be 15 to 25 below zero through Friday morning. Blowing snow will remain a concern through the night. Friday will be breezy and cold with highs only in the upper single digits to the mid teens and winds staying from the northwest at 10-20 mph with some gusts. A warm front will track through Saturday bringing temps back into the mid 20s, but also a chance of more light snow. We climb into the low to mid 30s on Sunday. The models are then in complete disagreement for next week. Some models have highs only in the teens for Monday while others have us in the 30s. I’ll compromise and say we will be around 30 on Monday, but will drop to the teens on Tuesday. It stays cold through Wednesday.
