#The_AAP_Chapter Middle class in this country ever since 47, has looked out for the quintessential messianic interventions to take care of their needs, wants, dreams and problems ! Post independence the Nehruvian elite were the Messiah in the calling and they cajoled and caressed the sensitivity of a nation ( pardon me there were hardly any sensibilities that were targeted ) into believing that they were the answer to all their prayers. Which also explains the sycophancy in the Congress as a party ! From Nehru to Indira, to Rajeev to Sonia and ultimately Modi the pedagogy transcended generations. While Kejriwal was a true product of the frustration and angst against a system that had gone rogue. A system that had a brain of its own. It hypnotically transformed its participants into contributing to its un-impregnable and fortified machinations , more often than not which were un democratic, un constitutional, illegal , thwarting human rights, exploitative and completely anarchist. The insalubrious effect of the system was so widespread it touched everyone from the Billion dollar company that wanted to establish a factory in Orissa to the auto rickshaw driver that paid half of his earnings in bribe!! Kejriwal ( for whatever his intentions maybe ) challenged and took this system head on. Given how herculean the task was , odds were hevaily stacked against him, still are. People back then as today dont hate Kejriwal as such, they subconsciously hate the ideology that he tries to breed. For a society that wanted someone to knock their doors and tell them all they had to do is vote for him ( secularism, development models , etc etc ) , here was a man that said, be a part of active governance. Find your representative, do your own campaigning , arrange your own resources, reach out to people and form your own government , thus blasphemously daring to cross the lines and asking the middle class to cross the lakshman rekha of convenience . . The convenience of having to sip tea while watching news of scams and riot, racketeering and nepotism, crime and violations and either wait for the messiah to redeem them or just nod their heads and say nothing shall change . on many occasions maybe both .!! As fate would have it, this time also coincided with the massive and unprecedented mercurial rise of Narendra Modi . More than the PR,or marketing ( albeit true ) it was the ingrained behavioral and genetic make up of relishing the role of the victim that made them latch on to the Modi wave ! Here was a man who spoke the loudest of his abilities to take the middle class out of their sufferings and place them on a pedestal from where they never shall fall !! ( which might even be true before i am called a cynic, this isnt about Modi just to make it clear ) Now , when Kejriwal continues with his fight , a society thats already has found its God and is convinced that all they ever needed to do for their country was press the Lotus symbol on the EVM , which they did so religiously cant bear to see Kejriwals continued struggle . Suddenly an honest man with no means and good intentions and few mistakes is the evil demon whose support could loosely be interpreted as a doubt on their God Even a prophetic apology became a theatrical move ! He wore shoes while he slept on the footpath but he wore sandals at the oath taking ceremony This was the extent of intolerance among people ! All his actions today are being met with disdained skepticism , suddenly noone has any grievance against the system .He is practicing the Gandhian ( MK not RG ) approach to fight a tyrannical system, The only difference is that was pre independence, mothers would sacrifice their sons int he name of nationalism . Today the son wants to be a Citibanker and have someone else promise him , he will set things straight and his job is done ! Modi was given a chance in a highly polarized country because the syncretic society afflicted by the wounds of secularism had had enough of it. Modi was supported whole heartedly inspite of having his share of mistakes. Why not then Kejriwal ? Because he made mistakes and Modi didnt , well dont think anyone could refute that he did too. So, if we embraced Modi with open arms why not Kejriwal ? Why is Modi crying an emotional outburst showing his deep sense of character and Kejriwals apology a dramatic act ? TImes shall tell a lot more than what they reveal today. But something that challenges established and genetically embedded perceptions is always wrong is a very short sighted approach to address an issue of this magnitude. Unless ego be kept aside we shall only find reasons to run away from truth and shy away from responsibilities . Modi has his place and he is more than welcome, so does Kejriwal ! Its not a fight of on two individuals . The fittest and the most potent of mechanisms that shall survive in the end , In their conflict of ideologies its always the victory of the society, Thats what needs to be believed. Alone Modi, Nor Kejriwal , Not lord Krishna or Allah itself could make a difference !!
