Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of Me - TopicsExpress

Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of Me this night, for it is written, ‘I WILL STRIKE DOWN THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP OF THE FLOCK SHALL BE SCATTERED.’ But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” But Peter said to Him, “Even though all may fall away because of You, I will never fall away.” Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you that this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You.” All the disciples said the same thing too. Matthew 26:31-35 (NASB) The stumbling of the disciples fulfilled Zechariah 13:7: “Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, and against the man, My Associate,” declares the LORD of hosts. “Strike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered; and I will turn My hand against the little ones.” The fulfillment of this prophesy is recorded in Matthew 28:9-20. Peter was not alone in declaring his faithfulness to the Lord as all the disciples declared they would die before disowning Jesus. However within a few hours they all had scattered. Talk is cheap. It is easy to say we are devoted to Christ, but our claims are meaningless until they are tested in cruel situations of persecution. How strong is your faith? Is it strong enough to stand up under the pressure of intense trial? In the United States political correctness is beginning to attack our churches and believers. We have not reached the extent of what is happening in Arab countries, but that is coming if we fail to be faithful to the Lord. Let us prepare ourselves by strengthening our lives through prayer and study of His Word. We need to ready for the onslaught that is coming.
