Theo Van Vuuren Urgent notice- please share As reported, at the Doornpoort sub station an explosion occurred. Eskom is busy assessing the damage and will only by tomorrow be able to give us details and also the time it will take to repair it. Eskom could not indicate to us the reason for the explosion at their feeder station. The implication of this is that we will have to rely on only one of our feeders from Eskom, and in practical terms it will reduce our electricity capacity with nearly 50%. For tonight, the technical team will start bringing power on line, and be prioritising our pump stations and water supply. We already have lost pumping to our main purification plant. THIS WILL THEN ALSO IMPACT ON WATER SUPPLY, AND AS FAR AS POSSIBLE WE WANT TO NORMALISE WATER AS A PRIORITY. following THAT, WE WILL BE PRIORITISING AREAS WHICH HAVE BEEN WITHOUT ELECTRICITY SINCE YESTERDAY DUE TO THE CABLE FAULT, WHICH HAVE NOW BEEN PREPARED AND WITH REMAINING CAPACITY OTHER AREAS WILL BE SERVED. TOMORROW MORNING, BASED ON THE NEWS FROM Eskom, A SCHEDULE WILL BE PREPARED WHERE WE WILL RATION SUPPLY TO ENSURE THAT ALL AREAS RECEIVE SOME ELECTRICITY FOR PARTS OF THE DAY. This schedule will depend on the availability of ring feed routes and we will only communicate on it as soon as all facts and the practicalities are known. At this stage its regrettable that most people in our city will be affected in one way or the other. Be assured that we and ESKOM will do our utmost to get supply back as soon as possible. We will keep you posted on radio, fb and through the website, of the situation. I also will tomorrow follow up with our emergency services, as regrettably, it was reported tonight that no reaction from the control room could be obtained by concerned callers. This is totally unacceptable and will be attended to in the strongest possible manner. lastly, to the technical Director, Kgodiso and his team, who have worked for more than a day to repair the cable, and were first on the scene at the Eskom blow out, thanks for a thankless and totally frustrating job done to the best I can expect from any human being. I trust that you will tomorrow be able to continue with assisting in resolving this situation. Theo Johan van Vuuren Administrator 7 hours ago
