There are 17 alpacas, two horses, two ponies and three dogs sheltered at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds in Ellensburg. They were evacuated as a result of the Snag Canyon Fire burning several miles north of town. If you’d like to lend a hand at the emergency animal shelter, call 509-933-8399 to sign up. Volunteers do not need to have animal experience; people are needed to staff the office 24 hours a day, answer phones and chaperone the alpacas, among other duties. Volunteers also are making a donation list. Call 509-933-8399 to have your name added to the donation list and you will be contacted when there is a need for supplies.
