There are a bunch of things not smelling right about this whole Snake In The Lake fiasco: There are no photos of the snake, but plenty of staged professional journalistic photos of the giant snake expert. Having checked out his page and some of his comments here and there ... well ... you can draw your own opinions about his attitude, his credibility and his attention-seeking behavior. And his credentials ... which seem sort of ... non-existent. Well, hes affiliated with a couple of animal welfare groups. But who IS this guy? How does he suddenly become a Snake Superstar? Does he have a degree in Snakeology from The University of Reptilia? Hes just a dude looking for his 15 minutes. I heard he used to sell cabinets and now hes doing snake rescue. Very dubious. This snake must be an anaconda even though anacondas are tropical snakes and cant survive our winter climate ... well, if they found a nice basement to sleep in they would survive ... I think if you had a basement you would NOTICE A 14 FOOT SNAKE IN IT. One week ago: I wont say its an anaconda because it will cause panic. Now: I believe its an anaconda even though Ive not actually seen it, and, even though Dale Sloat wisely said to me not to go blurting that around, it looks like attention is dying down so Im going to tell everyone its a freaking anaconda because I need to keep my name in the papers. Most people are idiots and wouldnt know a 4 foot water snake from a 14 foot water snake, so, the initial reports are dubious at best. Everyone on the planet has a camera phone and no one has snapped any pics or video. Strange. Is it a coincidence that these reports of a dangerous giant man eating snake in the lake are suddenly happening at the same time as numerous complaints about flotillas of drunken party boats disturbing residents in the same general area? Hmm ... how can we get these party boat people off the lake ... hmmm ... In summary: I think this whole thing is a steaming pile of crap and if a snake is miraculously caught it will be a plant just to save face for the snake expert and the others who are hyping this so they can be in the news.
