There are five things Indian Orthodox Church ( Malankara Church) - TopicsExpress

There are five things Indian Orthodox Church ( Malankara Church) can never forget. 1. The Tradition of St Thomas: This Church was founded by St. Thomas, the apostle of Jesus Christ. This church was not a fruit of Missionary activity of any Foreign Church. Land of India received Gospel in the first century itself. So no foreign church can claim any authority over her. We cannot never for the MarThoma Margam (The way of St Thomas). 2. The reality of Malankara Church : No other Church, except Church of Jerusalem can claim the historicity over this Church. She is an independent, autocephalous Oriental Orthodox Church. 3. This is an Eastern Church, a non Chalcedonial Oriental Orthodox Church. The Church is theologically and traditionally a part of the Oriental Orthodox communion of Churches. The Indian Orthodox Church accepts the Alexandrian Christology, as does the Coptic Orthodox Church, and uses the Malankara Rite – a local variant of the West Syrian Rite. 4. The primate of this Church is ‘His Holiness Baselius Marthoma .Paoulos II, the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan’ who is also the spiritual, temporal and ecclesiastical head of the Church, who is governing the Church the Throne (See) of St Thomas. 5. The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church has parishes within India and across the world, tracing its origin to the first century evangelical activity of St. Thomas, the apostle Courtesy-FrThomas Philipose.
