There are many arguments as to whom the phrase, Why should the devil have the best tunes? is attributed. The fact is that salvationists and their ilk used more contemporary music to ween the sinners out of the music halls and into the chapels. I wrote this song in the hope to create a feel for that time and use the imagery adopted by the early churches. Whatever you believe, this is just a song and nothing more.
