There are many stories about rabbis whose physical bodies died but are preserved. When the Nazis dug up the body of the eighteenth-century holy master Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, they found it to be perfectly preserved, and light shone from his eyes. When the Nazis tried to dig up the Ba’al Shem Tov’s body, they were unnerved because his body, also, had not decomposed after 200 years, and light radiated from his eyes. It is said that Eliyahu is the only prophet left in the world, but that only the holy may connect with him. He appeared as a teacher for tzaddikim such as the Ba’al Shem Tov and for others in other times when he was needed. Rabbi Gabriel Cousens, MD Torah as a Guide to Enlightenment (Parsha Kedoshim)
