There are now 3 sites for placing flowers in Martin Place, and photos can no longer capture the sheer expanse of ground covered by tributes. Premier Baird has said he doesnt want the public display of solidarity to end, so even if you can only get into the city at the weekend there will still be somewhere for you to place your tribute - the reserved spaces are constantly being expanded. In almost 70 years of living in various cultures on various continents, I have never seen anything like this. Tonight in front of me a man and his young son knelt down to read some cards on flowers in the original tribute area - I immediately wished my son were here to see this with me. Another lady walked around the huge display leading her little dog - I at once thought of Buddy and how he always likes to be taken to see things. I realized how important are the small things in daily life - and felt even sadder that two of our finest have prematurely been taken because some misguided bigot had a principle; the small things in the daily lives of their families and friends will be less colourful now. By the look of it, hundreds of thousands of people have already passed by the scene; if you havent been able to yet, come in - it will be the most renewing Christmas present you can give yourself.
