There are three stories of note in todays HNN issue, two on African-American history. Ill share the one which is not first, although its pretty exciting in its own right. In further exploring Columbus Day themes, NY Times sports writer William Rhoden blasts Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder for refusing to change the team nickname--probably the most offensive of all the Indian mascots in the sports world. Rhoden argues that Snyders stridency is based upon money, not morality. He also notes that the Redskins original owner, George Preston Marshall, was the last NFL owner to add Black players to his team--not until 1962, very late. Having players of only one race meant for a very mediocre team during the 1950s, but no matter apparently. nytimes/2013/10/13/sports/football/redskins-owner-stubbornly-clings-to-wrong-side-of-history.html?_r=1&
