There are times when I want to give up on humanity. It beats me why South Africa and the rest of the world are so hung up on this simple Cape Town man who draws simple pictures (or cartoons as it is called-I am referring to Zapiro). A problem-solving society does not rely on a cartoonist to solve difficult issues, albeit that socio-economic issues (economic apartheid in our case), religious intolerance, lack of political and ethical leadership etc. but in the absence of that dynamic, people pour their hope on someone who draws cartoons. Jesus, after Mandela, is this who we are? Is there nothing other than the cartoons of Zapiro to look forward to? Or is Zapiro himself a metaphor of hope? And if so, then we are f#@&ked! In his defense, he is not the man reacting to his art. Despondent (you can understand why I throw myself into rugby and music-that is to preserve my sanity)!
