There could be a theology course formed around todays Gospel regarding the nature of prayer. Jesus tells his disciples that the Father knows what they will ask of him before they ask, so they need not be wordy in their prayers like the pagans. Then he taught them the prayer we now call the Our Father. Here our Lord is trying to tell us that not all our prayers need to be theological discourses, like that of Anselms Proslogion or Augustines Confessions, even though these are great ways to pray; rather, our prayers can be as simple as Lord, I know youre here with me and sit with Him in silence. This lent, let us take up prayer, no matter how untrained we think we are at praying and no matter how simple our prayers may be. What matters to God is that we actually converse with Him in prayer.
