There have been many questions this morning regarding the fact that ETSU is in session. As noted in our Inclement Weather Policy, ETSU will generally remain open during periods of inclement weather. In making decisions regarding schedule changes, we monitor weather over the total ETSU service area but priority is given to conditions in Johnson City and keeping in mind we have a large resident population. As noted in the policy, faculty, staff and students must use their own judgment as to the safety of traveling considering conditions in their area. Students are responsible for any academic work they miss due to absences caused by severe weather. It is the individual student’s responsibility to take the initiative to make up any missed work, and it is the instructor’s responsibility to provide a reasonable opportunity for students to complete assignments or exams missed due to such absences. The Inclement Weather Policy can be found at etsu.edu/humanres/documents/PPPs/PPP-28-InclementWeather.pdf. The policy has changed significantly since last year so we encourage all faculty, staff and students to review the policy and become familiar with the important information it contains.
