There is a clear conflict of interest here: Daniel Donavan decides to run for congress about a month after failing to indite Officer Daniel Pantaleo for killing #EricGarner. Donavan is currently #StatenIslands District Attorney. Staten Island is home to the highest density of #NYPD then anywhere else in #NYC. Given that reality, there are obvious political consequences if Donovan decided to indict in the #EricGarner case. As an elected official he is accountable to his base (officers & their families) and would never get re-elected as District Attorney and he would never have the opportunity to run for congress in SI if he had chosen to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo. The US Justice Department needs to intervene now. There should always be a Special Independent Prosecutor in cases where an Officer kills someone. The DA and Police Officers work closely together on a daily basis which leaves space for conflict, and as we have seen in the Garner case, room for failure to indite when an Officer is suspected of committing a crime. And the grand jury transcript should be released for the public to review because I am sure we will find what more than two-thirds of New Yorkers suspect happened in this Grand Jury. #JusticeforEricGarner
