There is a push to acquire better broadband service in our community by the FEDC and Fremont Connect. Director of the Fremont Economic Development Corporation, Rob Brown said, Unfortunately, Internet infrastructure is costly, and many times providers are hesitant to invest in smaller communities due to an estimated low return on investment. For Fremont County, it is a critical piece of infrastructure for attracting new capital investment and ensuring our existing businesses remain competitive. Recently, many local businesses experienced the loss of the ability to process credit card transactions because of a provider failure related to this issue, that lasted more than a month. Fremont Economic Development Corp. is teaming up with Fremont Connect to host the free Broadband Begins Here event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 14 at The Abbey Event Complex Benedict Room, 2951 East U.S. 50, Cañon City. Brown also said, The importance of ample broadband capabilities has risen to a top priority? Our business and governmental leaders must convince them that Fremont County has broadband needs and the community is willing to commit to those needs in order to instill in the broadband providers the confidence required to make an investment in us. Reservations are being taken at the Fremont Economic Development Corp. office. Call (719) 275-8601 or email [email protected].
