There is evidence that materialistic values are counterproductive to happiness. Materialistic people are more likely to demonstrate a wide range of antisocial behaviors including aggression, stealing, cheating and behaving unethically in business. Materialism also correlates with lower empathy, being more manipulative and Machiavellian in personal and work relationships, and being more prone to prejudice and authoritarianism. The more materialistic you are, the less likely you are to care about the planet and take positive environmental action. Materialists tend to recycle less, conserve energy less, and have lifestyles exemplified by choices that are worse for the environment. Fight back! Embrace the values that really matter: caring for others, caring for nature, doing meaningful activities and exercising your brain and body.
