There is little question that the most unheralded model among the many sports cars in the Triumph range is the oft forgotten Vitesse (hey thats almost punny). Based largely on the Herald, the Vitesse offered better performance with use of a 1596-cc inline six (later increased to 1998-cc) and the promise of better handling through redesigned and sturdier chassis components. The design (as usual) was classic Michelotti who modified the front end styling by adopting the Chinese Eye design of contemporaries like Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Gordon Keeble and installing interior materials that were more upmarket from the Herald. The Vitesse also was a participant in the legendary Trans-Am series competing against BMWs and Alfa Romeos while sharing the track with big-bore legends from Ford, Chevy and AMC. In Kastner-Brophy livery, Carl Swanson campaigned the car with some success against the more modern competition (having debuted much earlier than the 2002 and 510). Today the Vitesse (produced from 1962-1971) is a rare sight despite the large numbers produced. As drivers they are the progenitors to the later boxes from BMW and Datsun and have much more flair in comparison. How many of them remain is anybodys guess but wed like to see what you have.
