There is lots of concern about what we should do about the Islamists who are causing so much chaos in the Middle East. Short term we need to stop the tide without boots on the ground. From that point on I believe are best approach is economic. ISIS, Hezbollah and Hamas and other such organizations are all operating on oil money which is flowing into the Middle East through the export of oil to the West. These Islamist organizations actually pay the fighters salaries. We can greatly reduce the oil exports from the Middle East by increasing the flow of US oil. We have discovered large quantities of recoverable oil and natural gas. We need to start recovering it and first become energy independent and then a major exporter. We need to be able to support a significant part of Western Europe on our exports. This does two important things. It strengthens our economy so we can defend ourselves better and it decreases the exports and value of oil from the Middle East. This will greatly reduce the flow of money to the terrorist organizations. What they are doing costs a lot and doesnt contribute to the wealth or prosperity of the people. Stop the salaries and a lot of the activities will stop. Ultimately the people will lose interest in supporting organizations who only yield poverty, destruction and death.
