There is something very special about the paintings of Jennifer Bock-Nelson. Aside from the expertly executed composition and richly layered color, her work captures and preserves a fleeting moment. These moments will be on exhibit at the Alliance Art Gallery in Hannibal, Missouri from July 13 through the first week of August, 2013. Imagine moving through a familiar place, past familiar objects. Our visual perceptual system provides us the image of the objects as stationary and without the effects of “motion blur” through a miraculously orchestrated series of signals and interpretation. Bock-Nelson provides us with a very different experience. Her paintings capture a world “warped by motion” and make permanent those fleeting and unseen seconds between stimulus and perception. Bock-Nelson earned her BA in Art from Houghton College and a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from Northern Illinois University. Her work has been exhibited across the country earning awards and acclaim. She has most recently completed a very public work for the Midsummer Arts Faire, a mural on a building at 115 North 4th Street in Quincy, Illinois. More of her work can be viewed at her website: bock-nelson.
