There was a time, not too long ago, when only 2 people, at most, - TopicsExpress

There was a time, not too long ago, when only 2 people, at most, needed help to collect their food from our datin seri. They had some disability and we were happy to run for them. These days the number of people needing assistance has increased to about 12. Last night, Monday 26th January, more were trying to push their luck to get our eager volunteers to run for them. What we mean by running for someone is that the person will be served before others and he doesnt have to line up for food. There were some new ones last night claiming to have had a recent stroke. Our volunteers looked at them and didnt believe them because they looked normal. Oh dear. Should we refuse to run for them? This was similar to the case of fathers with children joining the mothers with children line. Then we realised that the children werent even theirs. They were borrowed just so the fathers could be served first. We put a stop to these fathers joining the mothers line ... gender discrimation or not. As for the stroke patient claim, that is a bit tricky because last night there really was a 30 year-old stroke patient at our medical service. There was also a 39 year-old epileptic patient who had come to HKL for treatment but someone had stolen his wallet and he had no money to go home. He was also confused about the sachets of pills he was prescribed. Dr Suba took some time to explain to him how and when to take his meds. Farouk Hashim later took him to Puduraya and put him on the bus home. I felt sorry for both the stroke patient and the epileptic patient. Things are not going well for them. There will be too many challenges ahead. We had 50 volunteers last night and we served 800 people. A group of UiTM students brought boxes and boxes of buns and Mandarin oranges and we had our oranges too so we decided to go a little further to distribute just the buns and oranges. With the Chinese New Year being just 3 weeks away, we will have more Mandarin oranges to give out in February for sure. It is lovely to share, isnt it? ☺
