There was apparently a time when New Zealanders excelled in rudeness. This yarn is probably as old as the Tasman Sea itself but it really appeals to me - in a hurtful way. Back in the second half of the 20th century, when things must have been grim in The Land of the Long White Cloud, with young men emigrating to Australia in large numbers, it was said by a very cheeky commentator thus. "Every time a young New Zealander crosses The Ditch from New Zealand to Australia the average intelligence rises on both sides".
