There was once a weak, relatively liberal ruler in India who spent - TopicsExpress

There was once a weak, relatively liberal ruler in India who spent all the nations wealth on artsy buildings. He was a passionate lover and an educated man. The eldest of his sons translated the Hindu text Atreya Brahmin the pretext to Rig Veda itself. The YOUNGEST SON however... was FED UP of his fathers sickular appeasement policies. He slaughtered his brothers and attained the throne in 1658. He brought about massive REVENUE REFORMS. Ordered construction of GIANT SHIPS in Gujarat. Bought advanced weaponry from Turkey. Crushed the traitor rebels, but for some reason they kept rebelling. He was a devoutly religious man. Sent carpets, ornaments and gifts to his holy shrines. He believed in AKHAND BHARAT. A strong central government. Wanted to minimize the impact of the western forces (the Dutch and the British). Though there were some controversies about him... like jailing his father (not Advani :P ), and beheading his brothers (not Jaswant Singh :P ), and demolishing some 60000 places of worship of the non ruling faith. At the end of his 50 year reign, there were massive rebellions. Country was completely polarized on communal lines and centuries old mughal empire went on its death bed. Perhaps what he forgot was... its the PEOPLE who make the nation, not land, not wealth. If people are taught to live with each other, only then does effective governance and economic growth matter. (Read occur) #Aurenzeb I DO NOT consider him a worthy ruler, despite all the progress he brought.
