There was some chatter prior to the Florida State Cycling Time Trial Championships regarding poor turn-out. Well what a surprise when you consider the sterling planning/execution of this heretofore well planned and executed event: 1) Have the event just 5 plus months after the 2013 version of the event. Maybe that was convenient for the organizers, but certainly not for many of the ill-informed, potential racers. 2) Dont publicize the fact that after years of running the event in October at the end of the season, the normal/preferred time for a championship event, it would be held in early April. And certainly dont bother to give an early heads-up to Florida racers through perhaps an email notification of that major change. 3) Dont give the event enough respect that time was taken to perhaps run a GPS equipped bicycle or a computer equipped bicycle that had had its wheel circumference calibrated to the computer, run over the course to measure it accurately. The 20K course was not even close. The least a participant can expect, certainly in a championship race, is an accurate course coupled with an accurate time. Well done but it least obviates the need for any further speculation regarding poor turnout!
