There was this young woman living in a small town who had been living a sinful life. After hitting rock bottom she decided she’d give church a try. She went to the only church in her small town. It was a very traditional church where the women wore hats and skirts and the men wore suits and ties. She didn’t have any of these clothes. All she owned was a few pairs of ripped jeans and some t-shirts that were probably a little too tight. She went to church and sat through the entire service. No one spoke to her and people stared, keeping a watchful eye on her. Afterwards, she met the pastor at the door as she was leaving. The pastor greeted her, thanked her for coming and said to her, “Before you come back next week I’d like you to ask God what He’d want you to wear to this church next week.” She came back the next week again in jeans and a t-shirt. The pastor, confused, at the end of the service, met her at the door. He thanked her for attending and again asked her to pray about what God would want her to wear to their church. She came back again the following week, again, in jeans and t-shirt. The pastor was upset this time. He knew his deacons were going to continue to gossip about the girl’s appearance. This time he confronted her after the service. He said, “I thought I told you to pray to God about what He wants you to wear to my church?” She said, “Oh I did!” He said, “You did? Well what did God tell you?” She said, “The Lord told me that He doesn’t know what I should wear to your church because He’s never been here before.”
