There were days when 21-year-old Harsha Bhattad spent up to 16 hours with her books studying for her CA final examinations, but her efforts paid off when The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) announced the results on Friday. Bhattad scored 574 out of 800 bagging the third rank with 71.75% in the all- India examination. Bhattad, daughter of a grocery store owner, had the support of her family, friends and teachers but gives credit to her colleagues at the company, where she worked as an intern, for the motivation. She wants to opt for business journalism and studied for CA only to fulfil her fathers ambitions. Most students pursue a BCom degree when studying for CA, but I was interested in humanities so I did my graduation in economics from Fergusson College. I hope I can merge my interests with my knowledge in finance. My background in accountancy will help me in business journalism, Bhattad said. She is currently pursuing her MA in economics from the Pune varsity. Bhattads elder sister, who is a CA, helped her with the preparations. I studied for about 10 hours every day and started putting in more efforts later, she said. Bhattad always wanted to become a journalist, but she studied for CA only to fulfil her fathers ambitions. Unlike most other CA aspirants, Bhattad is from the arts background. After completion of her BA from Fergusson College, she is currently pursuing her MA in economics from Pune University. My background in accountancy will help me in business journalism, said Bhattad, whose father runs a grocery store in Pune and mother is a housewife. Her elder sister is also a practising CA, but Harsha has no intentions to get into hardcore accountancy. She scored 574 out of 800 in the exam and passed with 71.75%. Nawandhar from Jaipur topped the exam with 72.88%.
