Theres a certain fast food chain in Singapore that employs - TopicsExpress

Theres a certain fast food chain in Singapore that employs individuals, who process things a lot slower and simply, to serve the food and clean up after customers are done with their meals. More often than not, they are an obvious presence but are treated as if theyre completely non-existent. I was eating and observing at one such place today. Whenever one of the mentally challenged staff delivered food or cleared a table, the one(s) occupying the table will either just glare at them, completely ignore them or some - have the audacity to tsk them for being so slow. Whenever that happened, the poor staff will shuffle away with their head hung low. One came to my table to deliver my food. She got the wrong order. And she was very apologetic about it. After managing to reassure her that it was perfectly okay and only when she did eventually bring me the right order.. I looked at her and said thank you with a smile. And that was when she broke out in this child-like grin. But that wasnt the only beautiful part to this.. There were two little kids with their parents seated beside me. The kids were quietly watching the whole time from the moment this dear staff was so apologetic for delivering the wrong order to when she broke into that smile of her at the end when I said thank you.. so anyway, the next order that this dear staff was delivering the food to.. was the table of this family beside me. And when this dear, still-smiling staff placed the familys order on their table.. one of the child smiled up at her and very innocently but extremely sincerely said, thank you jie jie. The dear staff started giggling uncontrollably as she walked away. I really dont know how she was processing everything or what was going through her head and heart.. but I think she was happy. I also think that the kids of today are a reflection of society. They may not comprehend things the way we can but theyre always observing us and the things we do.. or sometimes, their (the children and the child-like ones) purity teaches us the most heartfelt lessons we might have forgotten ourselves. We need more kids with heart.. that includes the inner child in you and I.
