And for those who claim they dont get organic certification because it costs too much... Sorry-thats not a good excuse. This program has been active in Florida for many years. For the mathematically challenged - $1000 would only cost you $250; $500 would actually only cost you $125! And this is a yearly thing-not just for the first year, folks. Heres the section of the article: The National Organic Cost Share Program assists farmers with the expenses involved in organic certification. The Program covers up to 75% of the cost, up to $750 per certification category per year for a farm. This program is a reimbursement – the USDA’s Agriculture Marketing Service only makes a payment once a farm has successfully been certified. In the 2014 Farm Bill, this program was given a significant increase in funding. Whereas the program had $5 million per year available before, it now has $11.5 million per year. This should significantly increase the number of farmer the program can reach.
