These photos of poached Aquilaria trees (mai hom) were taken just off the Mo-Singto Nature Trail loop in Khao Yai NP, in November 2004. The location was less than 500 m from the park headquarters. This begs the question as to who was doing the poaching at that time? Park workers? Relatives of the park workers? Or outsiders? It is well known that factories processing mai hom continue to operate around the park boundary and are said to have protection from those influential people we hear so much about. The Pig-tailed Macaque monkey was merely in the wrong pace at the wrong time, pan-handling for food along the roadside and struck by a speeding car. Never mind! More cars entering the park equals more money for the government, eh?
