These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum. Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, "This is a hard saying; who can understand it?" When Jesus knew in Himself that his disciples complained about this, He said to them "Does this offend you? What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:59-63 The Holy Spirit gives spiritual life; without the work of the Holy Spirit we cannot even see our need for a new life. All spiritual renewal begins and ends with God. He reveals truth to us, lives within us, and enables us to respond to that truth. This is why we need walk in the Spirit and not the flesh.
