They forsook all, and followed Him. (Luke 5:11.) THE believer is called out of the world, because he is not of the world. When Paul was saved he said, Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. This should ever be our attitude. The disciples were washing their nets when the Lord said unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. Thus it was that they forsook all, and followed Him. Abraham left Ur of the Chaldees. Moses forsook the treasures and pleasures of Egypt. Many saints of old wandered about in sheep-skins and goat-skins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented. They gave up earths cities, because they sought for a city whose builder and maker was God. They sought not the praise of men, but the well done of the Master. God grant that we may follow in the footsteps of these Old Testament worthies. The stage scenery of this earth passeth away. Why should it enthrall us? We will set our affections on the things above, lay up our treasures on high, and journey toward the New Jerusalem. Gems of Gold: Daily Meditations.
