“They went down in the ocean.’ Flight 370 had no survivors. Now their families and friends must fight for their own survival. How hard it is to live with an unexpected loss. This depression is the most difficult to survive. Why? *There was no preparation for the loss. *It is a violent, helpless way to die. *They cannot touch their loved ones again. *They cannot say ‘words’ of comfort, love and encouragement. *They will probably never see their remains or carry out the burial traditions of their culture. *They won’t be able to visit their grave-site to leave flower and say a prayer. *One young mother hasn’t told her children yet, that they will never see their father again. *Young children don’t understand death and she will need to cope with their grief as she heals from her own. *Every family member will have to relearn life because death makes our lives radically different, especially when it was unexpected. *How can they trust life again when NOW they all know that death is so near? Their depression will takes years to heal but they will heal because ‘life is stronger than death.’ ‘Our lives end when our lives are complete’ and each of us knows not the day or the hour. The realization of death can teach us to seize every moment of life. Is that death’s holy purpose? Amen.
