Although these interactions are complex, fire can act as catalyst for regeneration or a disaster for species and communities. The scorched ground may many appear devastating, but even clouds of smoke can have a silver lining. In 2012, a small area of land was burnt around Balga Walk. With the help of intensive weed control, many native species in the area have flourished with the vegetation showing a remarkable capacity for regeneration. Discover just how this landscape transformed from being blackened and unrecognisable to the lush and dense bushland it is today. To find out more about life after fire, join the friendly volunteer guides on one of their free morning walks. Prepare for your walk: Wear sturdy shoes and come dressed for the weather. Bring drinking water. This walk requires a moderate level of fitness. There are no public toilets in Bold Park. Toilets are available at the nearby playground at the southern end of Perry Lakes Reserve. All guided walks are free and bookings are not required for individuals.
