Things you may not think of when caring for a person with dementia or alzheimers. Try as you may to cover all the bases and proactively deal and arrange everything with a hedge of protection, yet provide freedom, it is a dance that does not become optimized with a blink of the eye. Mom has thrived sitting on the front porch each day with an ipad by her side playing Bluegrass or Gospel music. What I failed to figure into the equation when her care giver is not here to help me is that the placement of the sun is moving throughout the day and the cool shade I placed her in day before yesterday didnt stay shaded the entire time. The top of her poor feet are such a lovely shade of pink...I could not figure out what was happening on the top of her feet until I was dressing her for bed and the light bulb came on and said Debbie, the sun mustve moved and was shining on her feet but not the rest of her and she is sunburned. Not one thought crossed my mind to put sunblock on her feet in her new moccasins...lesson learned...make more frequent visits to the porch to move Mom around like a sun dial.
