Thinking back to what I dealt with while deeply traumatised, I am amazed at my own resilience, and strangely grateful to have proven it to myself. For me, lifesavers were my psychologist (but I had to sack the first one, and the first GP), then the compassion I found working at Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House, and happening upon Body Intelligence Craniosacral Training and then TRE in David Bercelis first trip to Australia. Most of the people I feel close to and trust these days are people I did not know existed before my trauma. There was deception and manipulation to deal with, and lack. Constantly wondering how I could possibly survive, and then another human angel would appear. They were dotted through my timeline. Peter A Levine, PhD calls the journey out of trauma a heros journey, and I think hes right. Not easy, but so very worthwhile.
