Thinking of watching a great movie this weekend? How about a classic James Bond flick - specifically, From Russia With Love (1963). Be sure to pay particular attention to the Basilica Cistern, the scene where James Bond gains access to a tunnel adjacent to the Russian Consulate. Referred to as Hall of Pillars by Ian Fleming, the Basilica Cistern was built during the 6th century and contains a series of aqueducts that carried water from springs outside Constantinople (currently: Istanbul, Turkey) into the heart of the city - a distance estimated at 400 kilometers! The Basilica Cistern (translated in Turkish: Yerebatan Sarayı - Sunken Palace), is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns beneath the former city of Constantinople. The cistern has also been included in the 2009 film The International; Clive and Dirk Cusslers 2010 Dirk Pitt fiction novel Crescent Dawn; the 2013 Dan Brown novel Inferno; and the 2011 video game, Assassins Creed: Revelations. Did you ever think drinking water sources could be so interesting?!
