Thiobraid Arann Coiste na Nog Scene . Féile Hurling Moycarkey Borris achieve unique double . The Féile U 14A action was hosted by Clonoulty Rossmore club in Clonoulty which commenced @ 1.45pm. Similar to what had been scheduled in Annacarty the semi finals were played simultaneously. Mid champions Moycarkey Borris fresh from their victorious exploits in the football competition a week ago were bent on achieving a unique double. Their opponents were north champions Toomevara. .Moycarkey commenced in devastating form clocking up 4-05 while conceding 0-04 by halftime with both Darren Flood and Jack Fallon scoring two goals each. In the second half it was a closer affair with the Toomevara men adding 2-04 to the tally. However the mid boys while failing to raise another green flag pointed on six occasions to gain their passage to the final on a concluding score reading Moycarkey Borris 4-13 Toomevara 2-08. In the other semi final south champions Moyle Rovers held a four point advantage at interval against west side Cappawhite on a score of 1-06 to 1-02. The second half action was very evenly balanced. Towards the closing five minutes only a single point separated the sides Moyle Rovers 1-08 Cappawhite 2-04..However Moyle Rovers clocked up another point for a two point advantage and even though the west men had some scoring opportunities they failed to register and the south men advanced to the final on a concluding score reading Moyle Rovers 1-09 Cappawhite 2-04. The final was eagerly awaited by both supporters as it was a rematch of the football encounter one week earlier with the Moycarkey boys enjoying the spoils. T.J.Heffernan was the man in charge of proceedings which got under way in a baptism of fire .Darren Flood had goaled for Moycarkey inside thirty seconds .From the puck out the Rovers response was swift with the Moycarkey net shaking from a Diarmuid Mulcahy goal. Second later his side were in front courtesy of a point from Rian Quigley. By the fourth minute athlete supreme Jack Fallon had added two points for Moycarkey to snatch a one point lead for the mid boys. Darren Flood pointed on the seventh minute and moments Jack Fallon did similar from a free to put the score at 1-04 to 1-01 in favour of the Borris boys. From the edge of the sideline Callum Meagher saw his brilliant effort sail over the bar to reduce Rovers deficit to two points. By the twelfth minute Darren Flood had struck the Rovers net twice to put Moycarkey in the driving seat at 3-04 to 1-01 .Moyle Rovers responded with a pointed free from Ben Owens and a goal from Rian Quigley to bring their tally to 2-03. The Borris boys continued their attack which yielded three more points courtesy of Darren Flood, James Dillon and Bill Maher for a half time score of Moycarkey Borris 3-07 Moyle Rovers 2-03.. Upon the resumption it was more of the same from the Moycarkey attack as their half backline patrolled vigorously thwarting any danger. Borris goalkeeper Rhys Shelly made amends for the first half slips and brought off some brilliant saves when called upon. In front of him Peter Melbourne, Rory Darmody., Tom Ryan, Max Hackett was very vigilant. On the tenth minute one of the sweetest points for Moycarkey came when Rory Darmody disposed his marker and lay on a pass for Jack Fallon which rose majestically over the bar. From midfield up every single player for Moycarkey played out of their skins. It was Rovers who opened the second half scoring with a point from Sean Cotter. John Kirwan pointed in the second minute for Moycarkey. Jack Fallon added another four points coupled with a point from Darren Flood and a goal from James Dillon for a final score of 4-12. Ben Owens added two more for Rovers to leave the final score board reading Moycarkey Borris 4-13 Moyle Rovers 2-05. It was a truly panel display for the champions as they emptied their bench during the closing stages of the contest. Full praise has to be accorded to Moyle Rovers whom despite having to come off on the wrong side of this brilliant Moycarkey side on two weeks in succession never gave up and added to two brilliant finals. All credit to Moycarkey Borris on this unique double. All looks well for this renowned mid club for future. Prior to presentation the cup to captain fantastic Jack Fallon Chairman Joe Kennedy thanked referees T.J.Heffernan and Michael Murphy, the Clonoulty Rossmore club and the four participating clubs.
