This 1922 Marsh Arch Rainbow Bridge spans the South Platte in Ft Morgan, CO. Using the James Marsh patented design, it was built by Denver engineer Charles Sheely for $89,000 on 1922-23. At 1080 feet, it was the longest Marsh Arch Bridge when constructed. It has withstood 3 major floods of the S. Platte (1934, 1965, 2013). The electric lights seen today are faithful reproductions of the 1923 gas lights. Removed from acttive ervice in 1987, the 24 foot wide roadway wasnt up to modern traffic demands. (Replaced by a 1980s structure merely yards to the west). In 1996, the bridge was rededicated as a pedestrian walkway across the S. Platte and as the ceremonial entrance to Ft Morgan for southbound traffic. The bridge is about one quarter mile from US 36 and current I76.
