This Day: Day Two Focus Passages: I am the LORD, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols. -Isaiah 42:8 I saw a new heaven and a new earth… the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. -Revelation 22:13 Theme of the Day Consistent and conscientious discipleship springs from a sure knowledge that God loves us and that all of our devotion is a response to Gods love for us. Therefore, on days 2, 3, and 4 of each month we reflect on the nature of this gracious God. Questions for Reflection The world is filled with competing deities. These days they do not wear the same trappings as the Baals and Dagons of old, but there are still plenty of things that compete for our attention and devotion. That being the case, our spirits are well-served by reflecting on our understanding of the God who is alone worthy of our worship and devotion. Consider how you know God: -What passages of scripture are for you the most powerful testimonies to the nature and work of God? -What long-standing convictions do Christians pass on to each new generation, handing on the faith of what the Nicene Creed ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicene_Creed ) calls one holy catholic (the small c in catholic here means universal) and apostolic church? -What experiences can you identify in which God has been a crucial personal presence in your own life? -How does your understanding of God distinguish faith from superstition, deep discipleship from superficial feeling and long-term promises to God from passing fancies about God? - Daily Scripture Passages Psalm 16 biblegateway/passage/?search=PSalm%2016&version=NIV Numbers 24:1-13 biblegateway/passage/?search=Numbers%2024&version=NIV Romans 8:12-17 biblegateway/passage/?search=Romans%208:12-17&version=NIV Matthew 22:1-14 biblegateway/passage/?search=Matthew%2022:15-22&version=NIV
