This addition of the PVC alumni "Where are they now" features Jess Chason. Piedmont Volleyball Club My name is Jess Chason and I played at PVC my final two years of club ball. We all know it is a big deal to switch clubs, but I was ready to take my game to the next level and knew PVC had superior coaching and player talent. I knew this because I had played NC high performance in the past, and one year I was fortunate enough to be coached by PVC coaches. I loved the fast-paced style and how both my physical and mental volleyball skills excelled under this training. The training style was/is fast-paced, high repetition, high intensity, and fun. I can guarantee it was the reason I was offered a full scholarship to the University of Delaware and the reason that I had play time as a freshman and went on to set for the next three years, garnering awards such as MVP of tournaments, setter of the year, and most outstanding senior female athlete. Within and around the training, PVC stresses important life values including honesty, teamwork, accountability, hard work, and respect. I remember when a few girls wanted to skip a national qualifier in Atlanta (Big South) because it was their Prom dance weekend. The coaches made the team have a discussion without coach involvement, and we decided that everyone would be at the tournament. Then, WE WON IT! We played for each other because the PVC leadership turned the potentially devastating situation of not competing at Big South into a team building and strengthening situation. PVC also prepared me for balancing school, volleyball, and my social life during college. PVC was 1.5 hours from my home and most of my teammates also traveled for training. Therefore, a lot of time was dedicated to not only training but traveling to and from training. This was difficult at times because we had schoolwork to manage or we felt left out of high school or hometown social events. This translated seamlessly to my college career. Volleyball is a fall sport so our first semester of college, we are thrown right into school, preseason training, preseason tournaments, and trying to make friends. Having the PVC background certainly aided me in managing time and staying composed. In hindsight, I wouldn’t change a thing – most of my closest friends were made through volleyball. I am so happy to have the memories from Piedmont Volleyball Club and highly recommend the training and work ethic that it provides. Today, I am engaged to my best friend, working full time as the Assistant Risk Manager at the University of Delaware, and studying part time for my MBA. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about PVC, club volleyball, or playing in college. I would love to help you! jesschason@gmail ~Jess
