This afternoon at 215pm, our officers responded to a radio call at Park School of a 20 month old child left unattended in an unlocked vehicle with the windows rolled up for approximately 30 minutes. Luckily school staff intervened and rescued the child, who was crying and suffering from dehydration. The mother was found in the school office waiting for her other children. We used a digital temperature gauge and determined that the temperature in the vehicle was 111 degrees. AFD responded and ultimately transported the child to an area hospital for observation. The Department of Children and Family Services was notified and will be conducting a thorough investigation. The mother, a 42 year old Alhambra resident was arrested for felony child endangerment. Please never leave a child in a vehicle as the temperature can be fatal. Luckily this story has a happy ending.
