This auction is to help us help Armani. If I had known the extent - TopicsExpress

This auction is to help us help Armani. If I had known the extent of his medical needs prior to accepting him from another rescue who requested that we agree to a transfer on him, I would not have taken on this much responsibility. I dont believe in rescuing a dog who needs medical attention that I dont have the resources to provide. Thats not rescue...it is prolonging the dogs suffering, exactly what I have been doing with Armani. We all get surprises, particularly when pulling strays from the pound, but this one is huge. I knew that he had severe periodontal disease and that he had hundreds of little wires embedded in his gums and between his teeth that were infected and had to be removed. He was on antibiotics prior to his dental surgery for his safety, and the surgery went well. The wires and most of his teeth were removed, but he still had plenty to eat with. Since the prior rescue generously offered to foster him until the day of his dental surgery, I never saw him walk. He was put in my car, I carried him into the vet, picked him up that evening, and a few short days later, I knew I was in trouble on this one. Something was wrong. Armani didnt walk right. On all 4 legs. And it didnt look like IVDD to me. And my vet retired abruptly, leaving me scrambling for a new one. Armani seemed to be used to walking his weird gait and unbothered by it, but I knew SOMETHING was amiss here. Research by symptom until I was blue in the face, nothing. I started thinking it was my imagination. Then one of my alumni was diagnosed with polyarthritis. What? I looked it up just to see what was happening with my granddog. I found Armani on the same pages. His off kilter gait, like he is walking on hot coals or cut glass, is described as a stiff walk or walking on eggshells being a symptom of the disease. The adopter who just went through the testing to have my granddog diagnosed would only tell me that it was inhumanely expensive. Im not positive that he has polyarthritis of course, Im not a vet. But the only way to eliminate it and find other causes is inhumanely expensive In the meantime, Armani has acted more like an aloof cat here. Just keep his bowls full, give him a soft bed, leave him alone and nobody gets hurt. Finally, I chased him down to force some love time on him, biting, growling, whatever it took. I also had noticed that his lip looked as if it was caught on a tooth and I wanted a close look. He has another abscess. Severe periodontal disease is one of the side diseases that can be caused by polyarthritis, so I dont believe my vet missed something in the first dental. I promised Armani another dental appointment to fix that abscess.. Dont tell me they dont understand language, because suddenly, he likes me. That makes it even harder. I really want to do everything possible for him, hopefully resulting in his becoming an adoptable dog. The rescue who sent him here is not a return option as they are well known for euthanizing unadoptable dogs. This auction will hopefully give Armani that chance at a loving forever home, with another dental surgery, praying there is no nasty fistula and that I can get this done before the abscess ruptures, and a diagnosis/treatment program for his other ailments.. Goal? Im honestly not sure if it will be enough, but praying that $3000.00 covers everything. That is a huge amount to ask for, but neuro vets are very expensive. I do know the charge for an office call/ consultation is $218 and the doc doesnt even get his or her stethoscope out for that. Ive never spent this much on one dog. I would have declined had I been told. But he is here. He is treatable. I cant kill him. I cant let him continue to suffer either. Look at that face! He is 6. He has lots of years left if treated. I dont know what else to do. Help please?
