This blog notes that the European Union requires warning labels on foods that contain certain dyes, unfortunately we do not have any such regulations here in the US. This is troubling news considering that synthetic food dyes can lead to behavioral issues in children and are simply unsafe with many dyes containing carcinogenic contaminants. I recently had a mother share with me the nightmare her and her husband went through with their youngest child. The child would scream uncontrollably throughout the night and it was impossible to console her. They tried everything they could think of until finally their chiropractor asked if she ate any candy or cereal marketed for children. The couple admitted that yes the child did have cereal and candy on an occasion. The chiropractor instructed them on what foods to eliminate that contained the artificial dyes that she suspected were the cause of the issue. The couple complied and could not believe how quickly their child improved! To this day the child (now 14) finds that she is still sensitive to artificial dyes, reporting that she feels hyper and cannot focus on anything after she consumes the foods.
