This clip was originally intended to demonstrate the ancient lineage of Irish dance. As to the Turks, our ancestors were not too hot on their geography, anything beyond Poole or the Straits was terra incognita and as for Guernsey, well.... . They lumped the Saracens, Moors and Turks together, and they were uniformally seen as slave-trading pirates (this was before Europeans got involved in the trade). They were most likely from Tangiers or Morocco. Hence the description of the pirates frightened away by the stone-carrying fairies as Turks. We and they have moved on since those days. Had a hell of a job explaining this to an FB Turkish friend in Australia. But you cant be offended by folklore, any more than Jersey people can be offended by the Norman tradition of Jersey pirates raiding their coats and burning churches.
