This day’s reading Matthew 1:18-25 18Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.19And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.20But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.21She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).24When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife,25but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. Isaiah 9:6 6 For to us a child is born,to us a son is given;and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be calledWonderful Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Luke 2:1-7 1In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.2This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria.3And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,5to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.6And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.7And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Devotional Inspired by Its The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year by City Harbor To most people, the Christmas season is the most wonderful time of the year. With all the twinkling lights strung up around town, all the evergreen trees dressed to the nines with tinsel and ornaments, cookies for days, and packages wrapped in pretty paper tied up with ribbons and bows! For many, their favorite part of the Christmas season is the music! There is something about hearing Bing Crosby or Amy Grant sing a timeless carol that just warms the heart! “It’s the most wonderful time of the year. With the kids jingle belling and everyone telling you, “Be of good cheer!” It’s the most wonderful time of the year. It’s the hap-happiest season of all. There’ll be much mistletoe-ing and hearts will be glowing when loved ones are near. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” However, For us, this song goes a layer deeper. I often find myself daydreaming about what it was like during the few weeks before Christs Birth. What was it like back then? What were people thinking when they heard about the birth of a baby boy who had come to save the world? Were there preparations and celebrations? How did the people react when they heard the joyous news? This Christmas season, we want to invite you to REST. Whether that be once a day, finding a quiet corner to read about the expectant birth of our Savior (Matthew 1:18-25) (Luke 2:1-20), praying for those who dont yet know the real reason for the season, or simply taking time to truly see how this is the most wonderful time of the year! Me: So beautiful to think about this time of year. The devotional says it better than I can. I cant help but wonder what it was like that night, the still quiet night broken by the first wail of the baby Jesus. Being there with the shepherds as they heard and saw the angels singing. Going to Bethlehem and finding Mary Joseph and the new born baby. It must have been so amazing. Hear City Harbors Its The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year here: https://youtube/watch?v=KJxU36yo4a8
