This evening I met a great young guy... perhaps only 28 years old... Excellent in mathematics... even more excellent in programming languages... I was directed by my young teacher to buy this great software තරු කිරණ which he had written with minimal knowledge in astrology sometime back in 2007. That version is very stable and is used by many (though nobody wants to admit it). We had a long jaw and I asked him why is it not known of this software. He says he has sold over 500 of this but never advertised it publicly. He says that people who buy it dont want to tell others that they use it... I am on his frequency... Typically Sinhala! [What is in there is way over a lot of astrologers in this country - Having it is one thing, interpreting the vast amount of charts is another jaw locking exercise... This boy had figured it out as early as when he was 19 years old... I took a great liking to him... Very very simple bloke... very high-tech guy as I look around his room... Had studied at Isipathana.... He was developing the version 3.0 when I went... brilliant... he showed off a few things to me in real time [Oh boy, this is a Genius]... I asked him what was the purpose of changing from VB to C++? pretty logical and very far thinking... The original program had been written on VB-6 and is pretty stable after 8 years. But support for VB-6 will end soon and his clients will have a problem thereafter. I asked him why didnt you use Vb.net or C# to write instead of C++... [That was a rather stupid question... ] anything to do with Microsoft could be reverse-engineered and be re-written... yes, I know that... What is written on C++ could be adopted on the Linux platform as well as Apple machines and for Android and other applications... Great forward looking young bloke... lot of future he has I could see... One of the most pleasurable conversations I had with someone for a long long time... Has his share of personal tragedy... with a younger brother dying of bone cancer... which he believes was the poor quality of medicine imported to this country... That is another story he painfully told me... Never to believe in the medicine given by our hospitals... to try and get medicine down from a reliable place... His brother had good chance of living today... as he believes... Anyway, I came home pretty impressed. I installed the software and worked a bit around getting to know the pitch. Lots to learn. For USD 250/= You cannot buy Astrological Software as good as this, leave alone having a good chat with an intelligent guy! When we met he did not know me. Very soon he figured out that I was the guy who was going to Calcutta later this month. [My teacher had mentioned me to him in a glowing tribute] - I said Yes it is me... He says, So you are the one who writes those programs? Yes I do; [but nowhere close to this bloke!] He says, I have been told about you... yes, pretty simple, wears a T-Shirt, simple slacks and sandles, takes a bus - my brain is not very visible to anyone - I like to keep it that way... I owe this guy this much; An outsider is the best critic. When one is writing software one concentrates purely on transforming a program to another language. There could be a lot of logic errors during this transformation... I asked him about it... he knows what I am talking about... The new v.3.0 is a free upgrade from v. 2.32. It will be released on 16th March 2014 as a Beta version. Requires 4 to 5 years of testing. I volunteered to do that from where ever I am. Says that some people simply live with a bug without even reporting it for rectification...] Not my style... I helped fix a few bugs with Access 2007 in 2009 with Microsoft Mumbai! These are not bugs... these are a few improvements I suggest to this child... I see them as good simple in corporations to his new version 3.0 Dear Dasun: I have installed your තරු කිරණ software. Works fine though I need to learn much about astrology to make full use of it. I saw your DST program. I suggest that you include: • සෙනසුරු ඒරාෂ්ටක chronologically and • පරිවර්තන යෝග. Rgds – pd Dear Dasun: This is very bad programming... but this is the best I came up with a few months back... to have a whole month from new moon to full moon... it has its advantages, but more disadvantages than advantages. It is very difficult to target on a particular date without manually adjusting the පංචාංග. I guess I need to rewrite this... It requires an iteration of the date and replacing the values someplace which will be copied into the Moon Calender. That is easy. My Horror story is not that; reprogramming the combinations is pretty painful... This I did with utmost care; and after eliminating contrasting opinions and programming the weighted opinion; the problem with our teachers is that they write different view points and sell them for Rs. 500/- The logic and the VBA is pretty simple; but it is very difficult to figure out who is right and who is wrong... I guess I will re-write this program once I get some hold of one acceptable doctrine in Calcutta... There must be just one thing right! I hate when someone tells me ඔකේ එක එක මතිමතාන්තර තියෙනවා. Then one should know all these මතිමතාන්තර - or at least 3 or 4 of them out of 18 සිද්ධාන්ත before taking a Class! My suggestion to you is to incorporate පංචක මුහුර්ති ශුධ්ධිය and then the ශුභ දිශාව for the මුහුර්ථය as a graphic and indicate the direction of the Moon. You could also incorporate the තත්කාල කේන්ද්රය at the time of the ශුභ මුහුර්ථය so we know where the Sun, Moon & the other planets are at the time. This will also serve as a good final check on the මුහුර්ථය we arrive at... Best Regards – pd
