This film is my latest, released last week, and it is dedicated to a lady who inspired its journey, and final form...Kathrin Dörfeld. I hope you enjoy, Secrets From a Brief Ecstasy. Louis Antonelli January, 2015. This new film from Louis Antonelli is a return to shorter, experimental works (his first in over 10 years) Antonelli calls this picture, a sister film to his highly acclaimed production, it takes a lot of light to make a city from 1992. It is a poetic, non-linear, non-narrative film which, as with lights, he wishes for audiences to freely interpret without authoritative constraints from the maker. In a recent interview Antonelli stated, Secrets From a Brief Ecstasy is a picture I have been planning for years to do, but I could not find the right meter for it, the right tone. I knew I wanted it to be completely unlike lights in the aspect that it takes place in an urban setting, while I wanted Secrets to take place very far away from any encompassing, man-made setting. I wanted the film to be based in the elements; Earth, Air, Fire, and above all, Water, and I wanted it to be a humble expierience; the minds eye of the poet-seer to be humble before such a grand design as Nature, God, if you will. I also wanted it to be about pure love, renewing love, which to me is also very humble, elemental, and intrinsically poetical. Antonelli went on to say, ...What I also like about making films such as Lights, and Secrets is that you really can explore the completely illusionary aspects of Cinema, and image-making. Often within shots and sequences, there are, or can be as many as 12 or more separate photographic elements (shots) compositing at once, or intervals to create for the viewer one single image (experience.) And all of these pieces each have their own element; their speed(s) compositions, dynamics, exposures, light and shadow, and many, many other factors, often extremely technical - - that just completely dissolve into being not relevant at all (the artifice, the technical) as its just experienced, hopefully with the heart and not the intellect...these sorts of pictures become so much of nothing but cold, analytical exercises (for viewers) if they are only approached intellectually. No, these sorts of pictures (to me) are really so much about, and for the Soul. vimeo/116055294
