This gang and violence problem has layers of contributing factors and we are all in part owners. Until we claim it and as long as the attitude of it’s their fault or Its their problem persist, meaningful steps to find solutions are hampered by our denials and damage to the community continues. In my opinion we need multiple jurisdictions and an economic vehicle that creates opportunity. I take my example from 16th century Europe in particular England. England was an aristocracy were privilege and opportunity remained at the top. There wasn’t the opportunity for education for the peasant or underclass. The population swelled and the underclass males turned to thugs and hoodlums. Fights and drunkenness was a huge problem. The adventures of the Atlantic discovery and development of the Americas changed the equation and outlook for a society with youth problems set for self-destruction. Through indentures their fortunes were changed in the Americas, were the hoodlums became reclassified as trail blazers on a new frontier. As humans we learn from each other in our collective experience. I tried to demonstrate this phenomenon to the previous government. I wanted Bermuda to play host to implementing a new institution as a catalyst that would trigger infrastructural investment around the world with which to attach an opportunity for our at risk young persons along with others in a global initiative….no takers Dr. Brown did a photo opportunity with sound bites in creating Mirrors programme and ignored my idea which would bring trillions of dollars across our shores stimulating our economy creating growth in the world and solving our gang problem in its wake. A few weeks ago Bermuda through KPMG was invited to forum to look at the potential of global infrastructural development touted as trillions of dollars.
